Giving Thanks on Giving Tuesday

Howard Tarnoff March of Dimes 1950s

Many of us gathered with those we love last week, with far too bountiful of a plate celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday. This time of year, we digest all that we are thankful for – no pun intended. Think deeper about what we are grateful for. Yet it is also a time for me when those who are not so fortunate are at the top of my mind.

My first opportunity to act, to enhance the lives of others, was at the ripe age of 5 when I rang doorbells collecting dimes for the March of Dimes.   So, to me, my role at One Donation is more of a calling than that an occupation.

I am grateful to many people who contributed to my growth and success over the years and especially grateful to those who stood with me, held me up when times were tough, and success could not seem to be found.

In retrospect, the hard times may have been the best in my formative years.   I learned a whole lot, especially about people, and at the end of the day all that really matters are the people we touch and those who touch us.

The end of the year often serves as a turning point, offering a chance to take stock of our lives.  Time spent with loved ones celebrating the holidays can provide greater clarity on the people and causes that are most important to us. For this reason, many donors find it incredibly rewarding to make a year-end contribution to help the causes that resonate personally.

As we consider how to impact the communities around us, what matters is not the means by which you support, but the heart and the steps one takes towards making a difference.

On this giving Tuesday, let's commit to continue to make a difference in any way we can.
