Why Charities Need Regular Donors

I remember my first job out of college.  I had the privilege of working as the Volunteer, Marketing, and PR Coordinator for a large nonprofit in Western NY that served the Blind and Visually Impaired.  It was an amazing operation, as it had a clinic on-site to serve those who needed it most, a retail outlet for donated clothing and goods to be sold to help fund vital services, a job training center, and a manufacturing division where I regularly observed those who were blind and visually impaired recycle film, run injection molding machines, produce massive amounts of post-it notes (thus leading to a lifelong obsession with them), and package cleaning supplies for the US Naval Fleet of Aircraft Carriers.  It was a multi-service operation and depended upon the community and its donors to help keep programs and services alive.

I will never forget my first experience working with Braille librarians who transcribed written texts into Braille.  Little books turned into massive tomes, and they took their responsibilities seriously.  They not only gave of their time and abilities, but they became ambassadors for the organization through years of dedicated service.  Because of this, financial donors saw immeasurable value in the programs and services offered, and they helped fund some of the most critical services for the area.

You might be asking yourself.  This is fantastic, why do I care?  The reality is that regular donors are the lifeblood of any charity.

Here are a couple of reasons why these things matter:

1) Not only do regular donations provide much-needed stability for budgeting and planning, but they also enable charities to scale and expand their programs, achieving greater impact over time.

2) Additionally, regular donors can help boost staff morale and retention by demonstrating a commitment to the charity's mission.

But the benefits of regular giving aren't just for charities. By committing to regular donations, individuals can build a stronger relationship with the charity they support and the causes they care about. Regular giving allows donors to track the progress of the charity and see the impact of their giving over time. Plus, research shows that regular charitable giving can have a positive impact on mental health and well-being, providing a sense of purpose and connection to others who share similar values.

If you are looking to make a difference in the world, consider becoming a regular donor to a charity you believe in. Your contributions can have a lasting impact on both the charity and you.
